FedRAMP authorization
Sell your cloud service to US federal agencies
Map your controls to the NIST SP 800-53 baseline FedRAMP requires, keep the evidence your 3PAO tests, and keep monitoring after authorization.
What FedRAMP is
FedRAMP, the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, is the US government program that standardizes security assessment and authorization for cloud products used by federal agencies.
Its requirements are built on NIST SP 800-53 controls, organized into Low, Moderate, and High impact baselines. A Third Party Assessment Organization (3PAO) assesses the service against its baseline.
Authorization is not the end of the work. Authorized services run continuous monitoring, including regular vulnerability scanning and a Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) for open findings.
The program is being modernized under the FedRAMP 20x initiative, so confirm the current authorization path with the FedRAMP PMO before you plan around it.
Who needs FedRAMP
You sell, or want to sell, a cloud service to a US federal agency, or a federal customer has asked whether your product is FedRAMP authorized.
How TrustLynce helps with FedRAMP
Baseline control mapping
Controls mapped to the NIST SP 800-53 baseline for your impact level, with shared controls reused from your other frameworks.
Authorization boundary
Record which systems sit inside the authorization boundary, and why everything else is excluded.
POA&M tracking
Open findings tracked with an owner, a due date, and the control each one affects.
Continuous monitoring
Control tests and vulnerability tracking that keep running after authorization, not just before it.
What the audit actually involves
Almost no competitor writes this down. Knowing the shape of it is most of what makes a first audit survivable.
Set the baseline
Categorize the data the service handles to determine Low, Moderate, or High.
Implement and document
Implement the controls and describe each one in your System Security Plan.
Independent assessment
A 3PAO tests the controls and produces a Security Assessment Report.
Authorization and monitoring
The government reviews the package and grants authorization. Continuous monitoring follows.
FedRAMP questions
Historically, most authorizations have come through a sponsoring agency. The available paths are changing under FedRAMP 20x, so confirm the current options with the FedRAMP PMO.
FedRAMP baselines are drawn from the 800-53 control catalog, with FedRAMP-specific parameters and additional requirements.
